Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Re: My First Opera

I was in the same mindset as you a few years back; loved classical music but not opera. This all changed when I saw one live. My first was Verdi's Il Travatore. I was blown away and have been a huge fan ever since, even when it's just a recording.

As far as the Magic Flute is concerned, with the exception of the Queen of the Night's brilliant aria, I just didn't dig it. Regardless of weather or not it is a work genious, I find it trite and frilly. Same with Cosi fan Tutte. On the other hand, I enjoyed Don Giovanni.

You should check out Verdi, for one, if you get a chance. If you found enjoyment in a student version of "Magic Flute," a professional company's production of an Italian masterwork will blow your mind.
