Home Music Lane

It's all about the music, dude! Sit down, relax and listen to some tunes.

Hey GEO!

I already posted this last night, but it didn't stick for some reason, so here's my second try.

I have been listening to the stuff you sent, though not as much as I would like. I also poked around the FSNT website and was able to discern what albums much of this stuff came from and who the personnel are. I'd have to agree with you that FSNT probably has the best roster today of cutting-edge mainstream jazz talent (if that's not an oxymoron). Most of the names in that downtown scene are fairly new to me. I don't love everything they're doing, but these guys are obviously very bright and energetic and I think there's a lot of reason for optimism that the contributions of many of these guys will become more and more relevant. John O'Gallagher and Steve Lehman are two who left me cold or just plain wierded out at first, but they have grown on me. JO's Line Of Sight and SL's Artificial Light are both on my Xmas wish list this year. I'm not crazy about the all-sax front lines, but these guys are both very interesting. Lehman sounds like he's writing etudes more than anything else, but there's plenty of interest to hear nonetheless.

The Brian Blade is the only major disappointment for me. My guess is that his albums will continue to be a drag (for me anyway) until he learns how to write a good LINE. So far, the writing is blandola, and the blowing just follows suit.

I'll post more as I'm able.
