I have to disagree. Deadening or stiffening a cabinet SHOULD only improve the sound. While you MAY have a reduction in APPARENT bass, it would be due to losing the rumble associated with cabinet resonance. Since most cabinets are relatively small, their vibration typically contributes to upper bass muddiness and less definition. The stiffer or deader you can make the cabinet, all the better. Why do you think some manufacturers go to the extra trouble and expense of using concrete, double wall thicknesses, heavy bracing, special chemical treatment of the inner walls, etc ... ? It's surely NOT to make the speaker sound worse.

If the cabinet is vibrating badly, your best bet is to install some simple braces internally. If your not brave enough to venture inside the cabinet, your solution might help. It would be noticeable in the upper bass range. Sean
