Every instrument, when it creates a musical note, creates "overtones" and "undertones" which are at different frequencies than the fundamental musical note. You should be able to hear these when reproducing music accurately. Have you ever heard the resonance of a guitar "body" along with the sting or felt the undertones of a large drum, along with hearing the fundamental note? The more accurate your equipment, the more you will hear complete structures. Very "analytical" components which may sound clean and clear, may sound lean because they are not creating complete structures. A lot of high end equipment sounds "analytical" versus "musical".Good question about the power cords -- wish I could answer it for you, but just about every component I have ever owned that had a replaceable power cord benefited from a better cord. Even C.C. Poon of Monarchy admits that these amps sound better with their Monarchy upgrade power cords, but said that I might or might not hear a difference with the changing the preamp's power cord.
