I've owned the Ref4420 for about 6 months now and I'm very happy with it. It has ample power and easily drives my PSB Goldi's. If it has a sonic signature, I would have to say that it was on the darker side of neutral. I've never heard it to be grainy or cause listening fatigue but then again, I'm sure system matching has a lot to do with that as well. Anyway, it stays on all the time and never gets hot to the point of concern. This unit is often over looked but has a strong core following and I think unless you would feel better with a Krell or something of the more expensive breed, I really don't see why you would need more than this power amp.
