I don't know where you get your info from (especially since you seem to be posting incogneto). In my system, the bottom of the line BAT preamp with decent NOS tubes is better in every way than the ARC SP-10 and CJ PV12A that I previously owned. I can totally see how someone might prefer either the CJ or ARC over the BAT depending on taste or system synergy, but I can't imagine anyone describing the sound of any BAT as being either sterile or 2-dimensional SS sounding (even with the worst Sovtek tubes in place).Soundstage excerpt regarding bottom-of-the-line BAT:
"The L-1 has more width, but the BAT (VK-3i) has a naturalness
about its presentation. Images have density and dimensionality. The
stage was bit darker than that offered by the L-1, but it also offered
a more organic feel, a greater naturalness than that of the L-1."
