If you've ever noticed, you can snap a photo from the iPhone whether the phone is in the 'correct' orientation - or not. And it will display for you correctly regardless of how your iPhone is oriented.

If you're not sure how others will see your snap shot, just pull it into an editor (or something as simple as Preview on the Mac), then save it to the orientation you want on your computer screen before uploading.
