For me it was Black Star, a recording I've listened to well over a hundred times since it's release in January.
Don't think it's a sentimental thing associated with Bowie's sudden and surprising death,
it's just a GREAT recording; well written and performed, slightly twisted, fresh, provocative and damn musical.
The SQ is just fine too. After "Station to Station" it may be my favorite Bowie "LP".
Apart from that Los Lobos' "Gates of Gold" rang a few bells, but then they always do.
They've stayed fresh and interesting for over 30 years, not breaking any new
ground but doing what they do VERY, very well. They've been superb musical craftsmen
for a long time now.Didn't really explore much else as far as new releases this year - I used get to hear most any
new release, but those daze are over. What's yours?
