Vicious Rumors: Digital Dictator

I do not recall the exact date, but either in late 1987 or early 1988, as a high school junior, I went with some schoolmates to see Vicious Rumors at San Francisco's The Stone. Since we were minors, for the 2-drink minimum, we could redeem the scripts for Coke, Sprite, or pineapple juice.

We had to absorb all the smoke (in those days, smoking was allowed), and outlast 3 or 4 opening acts, before VR finally came on. The little concession stand was selling VR's new album, Digital Dictator. It was on vinyl LP (above), not cassette or CD.

Again, I don't remember specifics, but I do recall that "Digital Dictator," "Lady Took A Chance," and "Towns On Fire" stood out.

Because we had Digital Dictator on LP, not cassette or CD, we (my friends and classmates) did not bring this album to playgrounds, which, outside of school, were our favorite gathering places. No, we did not hear any of its songs on the radio. Even today, the only place you might hear its songs is internet radio.

Although you guys think of the Bay Area more as the thrash capital, it did have conventional rock acts, such Vicious Rumors, Y&T, and Night Ranger. I don't not know where the band members are, but for most of this millennium, the band had (still has?) an office here in Alameda.
