As it happens, I'm a little embarrassed that a local FM station touts themselves as being the pioneer "smooth jazz" station in the country. I don't care whether that is true or not but smooth jazz is just boring for me. And yet it may now be more popular that traditional (not meaning the '20s) or straight ahead jazz. So I'm likely in the minority among minorities. Yes, overall there are few jazz fans compared to those preferring any/all the other musical categories now performed.
Still, anytime a jazz artist or album is brought up it seems to attract a reasonable discussion, at least on Vinyl Asylum. And just ask for a recommendation. You'll be surprised by the number and variety or answers other Inmates offer.
