All in all, it was a very nice series. As a pop music history of recording, it hit a lot of the highlights. It bogged down in a few places. It also missed a lot of the highlights of the glory days of multi-track recording, such as, but not limited to, The Record Plant, Fantasy Studios, Wally Heider Recording, The Village Recorders (now The Village), Criterion, and others. Quadraphonic wasn't even mentioned. John Stephens' 40-track closed-loop tape machine wasn't even mentioned, nor was the late 70s to early 80s direct-to-disk phenomenon led by Sheffield and Crystal Clear. Nor was the disaster known as "sticky shed syndrome" covered. Nor the Soundstream, Mitsubishi and other early multitrack digital tape recorders. So, while very good for what it covered, I hope there'll be a more in-depth "Part II". And a "Part III" to cover classical recording. And...
Edit: PBS "World" channel was re-broadcasting the series starting last night (Saturday).
