Sheet lead used to be a very popular, cheap and effective way of sound proofing rooms for studios and laboratories because the ability to block transmission of sound is directly linked to the mass of the separating wall.
These days lead sheet has largely been replaced by mass-loaded membranes due to H&S regulations.
