RE: Repair Sony VPL VW 50 remote

I've order two universal replacements, but I'm skeptical if they'll access the menu. I mainly want to know how many hours I've got on the lamp, but I ordered a replacement lamp anyway.

Craig at AVS recommended an HW45ES as an inexpensive replacement for my VW50. It has twice the brightness and much greater contrast. Wonder if that might not be a good place to be while waiting for prices of 4K projectors to drop.
