RE: When Did Audio Cables Become A Component

Jean Hiraga of the French magazine L'Audiophile was reporting on the differences to sound that cables made ( both speaker and interconnect) in around 1977. However I recall that early users of Naim amplifiers in the UK around 1975/6 were also aware of cable differences and I well remember the green "Lucas" speaker cable adoption by such users. This was followed by a change over to self assembled twisted solid core cables sourced from the RS components catalogue.

Over time the subject of cable differences per se seems to have become confused with questions over excessively priced specially marketed items. Back in those early days no such cables existed and the realisation that humdrum items such as cables could affect things was entirely down to observation by users.
