The alien overlords, wisely do not arrive in giant spaceships. Rather they take over small companies, and send THEMSELVES out disguised as products.
In the home of unsuspecting Humans, the aliens proceed to brainwash the Humans into subservience....
THis invasion started back in the 1950's..
At this point we as a race are pretty much finished. THe brainwashing has turned us into idiots, waiting for someone to tell us how to think, how to behave.
When your best buddy (you never met) but is your BFF tells you to jump off a cliff. You go, happily.
That is when the Aliens will arrive with the big gleaming ships, to an Earth self depopulated..
