Your mistake is that you spent money to see a folk singer in an arena. This type of music is best experienced in an intimate environment, e.g. club and small venue. Much of the performance will not be conveyed in an arena regardless of the PA system used.
BTW, I have not found any difference in my enjoyment of a live concert regardless of the amplification used, as long as quality electronics are used. The venue's acoustics, my seat and the skill of the FOH engineer are more important.
