Which the film described as their third but first large store. Even so, at that time Gramophone Records in San Francisco and Leopold's in Berkeley had way better Jazz selections.
If I'm not mistaken, just as Peet's Coffee modeled his stores after Cunningham's Coffee on Piedmont Ave. in Oakland, I think Tower Records was modeled after Leopold's. In both cases they took over the space of the originals.
I'm not sure if was simply the timing but the way Latin America didn't seem impressed with Tower Records, and the continued success of the Japanese locations was interesting.
