RE: Building a new Rack

Thanks for the tip about the maple, that isn't a bad price and saves buying the lumber and laminating to the desired depth. I bought several pine shelves from Ikea years back that were being closed out at 12 bucks apiece 68.5" lg X 19.75 deep X 1" thick also added 3 ea purple heart ribs for added rigidity, 4 for the bottom amp shelf. The shelves were cut in half and routed on the edges with .5" d X .25" wide purple heart strips and purple heart posts (2.75 w X 1.75 thick) made from stock I've had for years waiting for a project. The disadvantage of this design is that the heights are NOT adjustable as the posts are dadoed .75" deep to accept the shelves. Mechanical fasteners were used that came with the shelves to attach the posts to the bottom of the shelves. This is another option but of course the added cost for the posts which may be a bit more than threaded rods. I am using stillpoints under all the components less the amps for vibration isolation. It's working out quite well, very solid. Only wish is that it were a bit wider, as is 34.25".
