Dipoles and omnidirectionals

Both provide that sort of experience, albeit a bit differently. With dipoles, at 90 degrees off axis, you are sitting in the zone where front and back waves phase cancel, so what you're hearing a lot of is the back wave reflecting off the front wall, and not much direct output from the speakers. With omnis, you get that plus the full direct output of the speakers, and everything in phase. Interesting experiment, but you'll probably get tired of it after awhile.
