For people into popular music (that's almost all of us), if you still want or prefer a physical medium, the trusty and much-maligned (by Stereotypical Audiophiles) CD usually offers the least-offensive least-inaccurate sonics.
Moreover, those of you who have been following me know that popular music is becoming more and more available on "boutique" made-in-Japan BSCD2 and SHM-CD formats. These are regular redbook CDs made to a higher standard. And they consistently sport cleaner, more transparent sonics. That means you will be able to "see" more deeply into the music. And that, in turn, heightens, enhances, and intensifies your enjoyment of the music.
Today, I just received the SHM-CD of Metallica's Master Of Puppets. In time, I will have to report how the SHM-CD compares to the cassette, vinyl, original CD, and DCC gold CD counterparts.
Enjoy your CDs. And remember, if your CD starts off with excellent sonics, your rips will also sound better.
