I left northern California over twenty years ago and have never gone back. I distinctly recall that stretch of two-laned misery called highway 101 north of Marin! Too bad that some things have not changed very much since then. I could never understand something back then and cannot understand it now: Why do so many "eco-conscious" people continue to support Car Culture the way they do?

You'd think that dependence on cars would be the first thing they'd want to avoid.
