S.F. Bay Area Audio Vacation

My short audio-oriented vacation to Berkeley and San Francisco is over, and I had an excellent time! (Well, except for the Bay Bridge traffic - what a mess.)

Highlights include touring Harry McCune Sound (courtesy of V.P. Dave Molnar), Parasound (courtesy of Richard Schram), Magico (courtesy of V.P. Dave, and I briefly met owner Alon Wolf), and Fantasy Studios (courtesy of Allison Gomer), hanging out with John Curl, including going to Music Lovers Audio in Berkeley, Berkeley Stereo and Amoeba Music. We heard the excellent Wilson Alexandria speakers at Music Lovers. At Magico, I heard the excellent Q7 in their EXCELLENT listening room, and saw the new Ultimate horn-loaded speakers.

I am SO grateful to the people who allowed me into their facilities and busy days to show me around!

"Misses" include Dolby Labs and Meyer Sound. Even though I had called a week or two ahead, when I arrived at Dolby, the security person said that I had been mis-informed - they don't do public tours - industry group tours only. Still, I saw the very cool electronic art in the lobby. Meyer Sound: According to his assistant Laura, John Meyer didn't have even one minute to say hi, even though we know each other from 40 years ago in Montreux and I promoted his speakers in the early 80s, so, that was a little tacky.

I have photos which I'll post "somewhere".

All in all, I had an excellent few days! (But, the traffic is horrendous!)

:)
