Fantastic and perfect timing. I agreed this afternoon with my wife to replace the old thick cheap carpet in the listening room with laminate hardwood in the next 2 weeks. I have been dragging my feet (for about 15 years) because I felt it would make the room too bright and create slap echoes (there are none now). I feel much better after reading your post. BTW she will not object to a nice Persian rug if I find things too harsh -- sound means nothing to her but looks are another thing.
