I experimented with accessing music files on my MAC mini from the
Oppo wirelessly. I was able to get the Mac to allow the Oppo to
access files from its HD. And they did play OK. But I did notice
some dropout from time to time. I attributed this to my barely
adequate wireless router and network I had at the time. At the end
of the day it was just easier to copy the files to the flash drive
and plug it directly into the Oppo. I am a firm believer in
reducing links in the audio chain if possible.
It sounds like Itunes or one of the other s/w play engines that
StereoPhile reviewed in last couple of years would probably be
a better fit for you.
Before buying the Oppo I experimented with the MAC mini quite a bit
as a play engine. I bought one of the Musical Fidelity V90 Dacs
and used the USB out from the MAC to feed it. It sounded very good
but as I said before I just don't care for having to use a computer
as a play engine. After staring at a computer screen everyday for
8 hours the last thing I want to do is turn on another computer
when I get home. ;-)
