RE: There IS life after hearing aids (long)

I can't hear worth a damn, but I love listening to music. About two months ago I got a pair of hearing aids, over half the cost of which was subsidized by the State, because they are experimental. They have a normal program, music program, crowd program, even have a driving program. At first, what i heard sounded different on all the programs. Now they all sound the same, but I can hear a lot better. The crowd program is a god-send. It subdues the background noise, so i can carry on party conversations.

The funny thing is that when I listen to music, none of the programs sound any different from my hearing when I am not wearing the hearing aids at all, but this is not the case in other situations. I guess that isn't so strange, knowing how I turn the volume of my preamp up!

Yes, I've had them adjusted a few times, but what I hear only sounds different for a short while.

So, I guess the technology works, but so does my brain. It seems to be adapting...and quickly.
