You Cannot Turn a Speaker Off........

(Unless it's an electrostatic or field coil speaker.... )

Running an amp without speakers connected is akin to running a phono stage with the output *disconnected* from the line stage.... Which is NOT the same as running the phono stage connected to a line stage that's turned off. The phono stage will likely still see the load if connected to the line stage when it's turned off.
