If your music system is a key point of your life (it certainly is for me) then carpet is a must, IMO.
We have nearly finished building a new house. Architects are excited by the look of tiled or hardwood floors ... they don't like carpet (it's "boring")! So they pressed us to have tiles in the main living are and a hardwood floor in the secondary living room - which is where my stereo system is set up.
We resisted ... and have carpet in both places: :-))
* in the 1st floor main living area - because otherwise, with a tiled floor and sheet plaster ceiling, the noise level gets ridiculous when you hold a party.
* in the 2nd floor 'music room' because IME that is the best option for good sound. The room itself has been constructed with:
- 20mm compressed cement sheet as the floor, and
- double plaster sheets on the walls and ceiling.
... so it remains to be seen how it will 'behave' when music is played. I suspect I may have to use some sort of treatment for 'slap echo' and will be using a DSP system to link subs to my Maggies - which will have room correction for pesky bass nodes.
So I'm hoping the result will be as good as the theory predicted. :-))
Regards,
Andy
