Stiff power supplies do make a difference

I'm not sure that I agree that such always requires a two chassis approach, but is desirable. My ARC SP-20 has a 38 joule power supply using an R-core trannie and bypassed by WIMA film capa. By comparison, a Phase Linear 400 power amp has 32 joules. I find that to be sufficient for my needs.

Had I a $60k budget, however, then I would indeed have followed your advice and purchased the REF10 line stage and REF10 phono - each of which is a two box component with dual mono power supplies that are on the order of 14x the capacity of mine.

Nothing quite succeeds like excess. :)
