First of all, thanks to everyone for hanging in with me on this.Abe, to answer your question, I want to be able to hear the beeps when I enter the premises, to remind me to turn off the alarm. For example, I have a baby monitor set up in the basement so I can hear the unit when I come in that way, but it is barely audible because the wall unit is barely audible. The unit before this one was no problem, because the beeps were much more audible.
If the actual alarm were to go off, it would be heard a block away, so no problem hearing that!
Abe, your idea is kind of on the right track, but unfortunately, I doubt if the chime device would detect the very, very soft beeps of the alarm unit.
Jea48, I'll look more closely at the device you linked to, and at similar devices. My concern is the battery life. It would have to be more than a few hours to serve my purposes. Something with an option to plug into a wall outlet would be ideal.
Duster, I do have a hearing aid, but I seldom need to use it. And I can hear the beeps when I'm close to the unit--I'm not totally deaf. It's just that the beeps are very soft and in a high-frequency range that is particularly challenging for me.
This is a productive discussion. Please don't hesitate to toss other ideas, products, etc. my way.
Bill
