What is going on?

I know the world went to hell years ago, but this hobby is looking even stranger OUTSIDE the Asylum than in.
Have you looked at Audiogon lately? It's totally blinged out, with stuff you couldn't buy using a second and third mortgage on your house.
I recently spotted an Audio Note Japan-Kondo Ongaku on sale as a "demo" for $79,900. That's U.S. dollars. The regular price is $110K, so it's a bargain. They don't even mention white cotton gloves.
Is it really possible to spend $110K on an integrated amplifier, only one part of the reproduction chain? Do the electrons realize how lucky they are to be riding on all that silver wire?
Where is all this going?
