Tidal takes very little bandwidth relative to modern internet speeds and Wifi networking so if you're thinking of 'optimizing' for Tidal specifically, you haven't much to gain with a new "AC" Wifi router.
That being said, I couldn't tell you if the Wifi/Router/CableModem that your ISP will provide is compatible with Wireless "G". I couldn't even tell you if your ISP provides the Wifi/Router or just the CableModem. We have a choice and I chose the 'all-in-one' Wifi/Router/CableModem/Switch. And I no longer own any Wireless "G" devices.
For fastest internet speeds for downloads and such my computer is hardwired CAT5E to my Wifi/Router/CableModem/Switch. We get very fast and reliable downloads and streaming via Wifi but hardwired is more consistent so that's what I use in my home office.
