General audio topics that don't fit into specific categories.

What magnetic tape has not suffered some deterioration in 30+ years?

They all have. So then it becomes an issue of degree. And certainly there is a great variability in how many masters were stored and how they have aged.

Acoustic Sounds metric is different than yours. Nothing surprising in that. And it's their website so they may decide not to post negative reviews, just as the Naim forum won't let you talk about mods and third party power supplies. It's their bandwidth and they are free to use it as they choose.

In a recent Joni Mitchell interview she said that the masters were so bad on some of her work that some of the recent issues were mastered from LPs in her collection. If Reprise did not bother to take care of the recordings of one of their cash cows then all is lost.

But in the end, you are an audiophile and so are focused on the sound quality of these recordings. I would rather have the performances available on LP in any state. At least that way people can access our rich musical heritage. There are many great recordings that are poorly recorded. Should we start purging them now, or wait until the fire burns a little hotter?
