We finally made it up to Lafayette for their Festival International and we had a blast. The festival is held in the middle of down town much like the Montreal Jazz Fest. The focus originally was on music from French speaking countries but since 9/11 visas from some of those countries have been hard to get and they have been relying heavily on the Caribbean, but it seems like those restrictions are starting to loosen a bit. The highlights for us were, Aurelio Martinez and Joe Driscoll and Sekou Kouyate. Next year I will go for at least two days. I have posted a link to their web sight if you are interested.
Aurelio is Garifuna from Honduras a proud people with an interesting story, google it.
