For me, the local PBS station is (was) the only FM station that broadcast jazz on a schedule that was useful. Unfortunately, the local PBS station recently decided to drastically curtail its jazz broadcasting. I called the station manager who proceeded to lie to me, saying all kinds of outrageous things to justify their decision. for example, he said that they had conducted "extensive research" before making the decision to lobotomize their jazz broadcasts. This is ridiculous. They didn't talk to anyone, not even their own DJs!!! The decision was made several months ago and I have yet to find a single person who was contacted during the course of the station's "extensive research." Basically, rather than actually try to develop meaningful relationships with their public, many PBS stations are simply following the same wrong-headed decision to withdraw into themselves. The only relationship I have to any PBS station in my town is them begging for money. Needless to say, they aren't going to get a nickel from me. The only good news is I no longer have to listen to them beg for money.
So the "End of FM" has already happened in my town.
Mike
