I actually enjoyed her non jazz cover albums - Girl in the Other Room and her new one called Wallflower (covering rock and pop tunes). Though I have only heard a couple of tracks from the new one - it seems interesting that the likes of Krall has moved toward POP while Gaga has moved toward Jazz. I'll have to look up and see if pigs are actually flying.
I am fine with the lounge jazz voice she has but I often find her albums monotonous. I always sit there thinking there could be so much more here. All of the people you list have talent and you just want something more from them. Perhaps it's the song selections or arrangements or something.
I personally prefer Jazz from lesser known (but also Canadian) Sophie Milman and relative newcomer Kate Davis (Glad to be Unhappy) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpxI3GMi298 who I feel are simply better vocalists than the likes of Krall/Barber. Also prefer Jazz/pop fusion from someone like Sade.
