Terrestrial radio will still be the means of transmission after the switch to DAB...

...the difference is that multiple channels of digital audio data (and other stuff) will be transmitted instead of an analog audio signal. A new receiver will be required but the local weather and disaster info should still be readily avail.

The real brave new world is internet broadcasting. With wireless coverage increasing every day and some of the newest autos featuring wireless wifi hotspots, traditional broadcasting using big power hungry transmitters may fast become obsolete whether digital or analog , AM or FM. I foresee a day when a car "radio" (actually, any radio or music/media player) will just be a dock for a smart phone or wireless tablet or whatever the device is called at that time. Content providers will have more control over content and both they and the wireless providers will have the opportunity for multiple and varied revenue streams. Can't wait!!!
