I know somebody near me who every 9 months or so swaps out their entire system and regardless of what his new current config consists of, he claims its the best he's ever heard and invites me out to listen so I usually oblige him.
This has gone on for about 8 years now. Except for one instance, every time I've gone out to listen, it was either the most unmusical and worst sound I've ever heard or pretty close to it. And every time I go out I have to monkey with the installation in some way that usually adds quite an improvement but still very intolerable.
The one exception was about 4 years ago that was actually fairly musical that I think most would be pleased to own. Nevertheless that was about 4 systems ago and the sound of his later systems seemed to get progressively worse with each iteration.
Oops, there's the phone ringing now. I hope it's not him.
