I am sorry for anyone who has to go through this. I don't know how much help asking such questions here would be since you're likely to hear a lot of anecdotal tales from different folks in different states where divorce laws vary. In some instances it might be necessary to sell some or all assets and divide up any profits as cash.
I am not an attorney, but this kind of question ought, it seems to me, to be asked of your divorce attorney. If you and your ex are trying to avoid paying attorneys, I guess you'd have to divvy-up your material goods as amicably and fairly as you can. I'd recommend that at the least, you make a list of your assets and create a written document about who gets what.
Again, I'm certainly sorry to learn of this situation.
