First, I have several USB drives that contain a bunch of downloaded music, usually in ISO or FLAC format. I then usually burn a physical disc from those files both as an auxiliary backup and for playback purposes.
I also have a bunch of original physical discs which have been commmitted to the aforementioned hard drives. So almost all of my music is available on both physical discs and as digital files. And the USB drives have backups.
So I'm pretty much set for most any eventuality including drive failure or physical disc rot. If you're willing to put in the effort as I have, you can keep your music pretty much forever and have redundant backups...
