A funny story about square wave test on speakers

Hi
sometimes i get the feeling that many so called experts have a strange attitude
Some time ago i questioned in a DIY forum if a square wave test could tell "something" about a quality of a loudspeaker driver, even if in nature signals of this kind do not exist
I was attacked as ignorant (and this is actually true) and openly derided.
To stop this i had to mention a famous and praised speaker designer saying that this test is indeed valuable and promotes his creations as able to pass a good square wave.
Then i got no other replies. I tried anxiously to get an opinion on this but the discussion stopped immediately.
Is this not strange ?
By the way my question is always open.
I have seen at least another famous audio designer in this forum mentioning the SW response of a speaker as a valuable test.
I tend to feel the same
Thanks a lot.

Kind regards,
bg
