I'd spring for:
o An OPPO BDP-105D universal cdp $1299
o A pair of Wyred 4 Sound SX-1000 mono blocks $2400
o A pair of used full range VMPS speakers if you can find them $2000
Come to think of it, that's exactly what I purchased after selling my Esoteric UCDP ($9k), BMC C1 int amp ($8k), and my Legacy Focus speakers ($7500) and each replacement was a substantiate performance improvement over their predecssor.
This is what a well-spent $6k can look like. Now bear in mind I have another $14k unseen e.g. line conditioners, rack, cables, etc. to make this humble 2-component system soar.
