Turn $7,500 into $15, 000 or more...

.., and buy high quality used gear. Especially for very heavy and/or physically large loudspeakers, the depreciation rate for hifi gear can be substantial.

I've seen pristine looking high-end loudspeakers (including some new, unused ones) selling for 1/3 of their original cost in the classifieds. I believe that one of the only reasons for this is that they are often extremely heavy, physically large, difficult to move, pack, ship, etc...

The depreciation rate for amps and source components is usually less than for heavier components, but you still count on a discount of at least 30% off their new retail prices when you buy good used items. I'd say that 30% to 50% of new retail cost is common for used gear that is in very good to excellent condition.

I don't have any specific recommendations for you because $7500 is a bit more than I've ever spent on an entire loudspeaker system. But, I can say that the array of mouth-watering used gear to be found at bargain prices is enormous.

Audiogon, despite it's faults, is still the best place to look for high quality used gear IMO. The Audio Asylum Trader is also very good but the selection here is not nearly as enormous. Look around, ask some questions, do some research.

Regardless of whether you buy new or used, the selection of great products available today is enormous.

BTW, I'm a proponent of "genre-specific" buying, which means that I will try to buy gear that is a good match for specific musical genres. Some people hate to admit this, but different types of speakers have different sonic personalities - just as different musical genres have different sonic personalities. Therefore, I recommend doing some "genre-specific" research before hunting for speakers that might sound good with the musical genre or genres that you love most.
