RE: Build a $7500 system.

Before buying any equipment, get your room treated and your electrical
power supply situation squared away. Then you can buy equipment. Buy
speakers first, then a source, and amplification last. Personally I
find the distortions of tube amplification superior to those of solid
state. I also prefer planar/electrostatic speakers as I think they
sound more natural than any but the most expensive box speakers. A pair
of magnepan mmgs cost less than a grand, sound quite wonderful, but require
lots and lots of amplifier power. As for a digital source, I currently
use a Bryston cdp, but there are a lot of very good ones out there for
not a lot of money - Rega comes immediately to mind.
