...MP3 is a lossy format and many CD players will play music recorded on CDs in MP3.
By lossy, I mean a large quantity of the musical information is taken out so the file will be smaller - like a FAX of a picture where you can still tell what the picture is, but much of the detail and color are missing
Most all downloaded music (iTunes for example) is in MP3 unless it's from a high rez website.
