VCRs killed stereo and hi-fi in general

The advent of moderately priced VCRs killed hi-fi as the mass obsession it had been in the '70s. VCRs offered a whole new realm of access to movies, etc., hadn't previously existed. I think the average Joe was and is more engaged by video than buy sound alone.
