Locally the selection of used is very tiny.
One store no longer open used to have a small rooom with stuff in it. Typically 80% of that stuff was junk. Once in awhile some gen would be there.
No other stores have/had anything used. A few would sell demo, or trade in (And that dealer would ONLY accept trade in stuff he sold)So the idea that local stores sell used is not even realistic. Mainly because folks want what they want, not whatever junk is easy to buy locally.
The internet totally changed the buying reality. Since anything is available, with only a little effort.
Where pre-internet, only what you could find locally, or had to chance to go to a big city to other dealers.. Taking a chance they might have something you would accept.Now. no one buys stuff unless that is exactly what is wanted. Or at worst the best you can afford. This includes new and used.
I would think the number of folks who go to a local dealer and buy whatever they have used... Is a very tiny portion of audio buyers. And then it is partially because they lucked out and found what the are interested in anyway.
