RE: One othr point, a piano sounds very different. . .

Bada-bing!

This is what I'm talking about when I say that a microphone only picks up the direct sound at single point, and the sound is different at different positions around the instrument. Loudspeakers cannot reproduce the instrument's 3D dispersion pattern, since the mic was at a single location.
