I wonder how this mistaken description got started? I think it is a continuation of the tube vs solid state, and digital vs analog. I have heard tube components and analog systems that have as much detail as any ss or digital system. I consider my all tube system to be highly musical yet it has tons of detail and frequency extension. The negative assumptions of musicality are just simply wrong.
