CAS Day 1

Day 1 at the California Audio Show just "OUTSIDE" of San Francisco. Seems like less number of rooms than the past two years. But fairly good sound all around. Of course, as I said that, the Aurrender music server in the Magico room went down, and the sound after the reboot became horrible. The programs are excellent with quality topics and discussions.

Wilson/ARC combo was very impressive overall. Sony with Blue Coast was playing good music until they switched to the Sony server playing some non-Blue Coast music. They have a special VFET monoblocks made by Nelson Pass using some 40-year old VFET transistors dug out of Sony warehouse. The price sheet said they are not for sale.

Margules from Mexico was also great sounding in a smaller scale room. BMC with their electronics & speaker sounded wonderful as well.

The overall theme this year seem to be retro and small watt SET/push-pull amps. At least 2/3 of the rooms are going with small amps. Also, a reflections of times, many of the exhibitors are very explicit that everything you see is for sale.

Got to listen to a live performance/ recording at Blue Coast and heard the raw recording immediate afterwards, as well as a demonstration of what type of mastering the engineers do to the sound afterwards.
