What do we mean by "the music" ? The sounds of the instruments and voices or how we feel when we hear them? Both, of course. But they are not the same thing.
At the moment, I think my SS gear is getting me closer to the former and that I am responding to the sound in the way (if not the degree) that I respond to 'live' music. So I'm getting the music in both senses.
With my single-ended tube and hybrid electronics, I'm getting a good deal of the former, though not as much as I'd like. It's variously lovely, euphonious, rich, warm, robust; but also a tad opaque maybe even a little slow? As a result, the feeling I'm getting seems a bit managed, interpreted. Managed and interpreted attractively but managed nonetheless. I'm aware of some thing or some one between me and the instruments and voices, the designer, I assume. Most of the time I prefer to do without that/him.
If you find a designer who gives you enough of the instruments and a lot of the feeling you particularly like, then there you are. No need to listen to me. I'm in the same asylum you are, not above or even alongside it. Just another inmate, though one who probably talks too much.
